Στην Ελλάδα κατασκευάζεται από την ΕΛΒΟ ως στρατιωτική σειρά Mercedes-Benz W462 στα μοντέλα 240GD/24 (1,25 τόνοι) και 290GD/28 (1,5 τόνοι). Μέχρι σήμερα έχουν κατασκευαστεί 10.000 οχήματα (και 250 δεξιοτίμονα για τον Κυπριακό Στρατό) σε διάφορες παραλλαγές, όπως: Μεταφορέας προσωπικού / φορτίου (η συνηθέστερη εκδοχή), Όχημα Διοίκησης, Ασθενοφόρο και Φορέας Οπλισμού.

The "Wolf" 3rd generation light gl truck serves the German Arm for all duties where a small number of personnel, small quantities of material or small pieces of special equipment need to be transported across country. So far it has participated in all German Army missions abroad and has provedd outstanding over the most difficult terrain. Classed as a light 0.5 tonne gl truck it can be carried by air in the C-160 Transall and CH-53 helicopters. After a rather slow initial phase, by joint cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and Steyr-Puch, it developed purely into an off-road vehicle. First of all the overthrow of the Shah of Iran gave rise to a large order, then the German Army decided in favour of the VW "Iltis". However, thanks to orders from other nations, production started in 1979. Then in 1980 when a successor to the "Iltis" was sought, Mercedes-Benz was awarded the contract and in 1988 was able to accept an initial order from 12,000 vehicles in the standart version MB 250 GD (short wheelbase). In subsequent years, in addition to the "Iltis", the "Wolf" superseded the "KraKa" and the "VW 181" and at company level was also used by both staff and special forces. The "Wolf" also known internationally as the G-Wagon, has a four-speed gearbox, all-whell drive, cross country reduction gear and the differential locks can be switched on or off in motion. This is not customary in a cross-country vehicle. In addition the standard lightning includes masked headlamps and, according to application, rifle rests and radio equipment. The electricity supply meets the German Army 24 V standard. Over the years even greater numbers of the "Wolf" have been produced, including, in addition to the standard version, models that have armaments, wheelbases, engines and rear superstructure. With slight modifications, it is operated by the Austrians as the Puch G, In Greece it is also produced under licence by ELBO. In France it rolls off the Peugeot lines as a somewhat simplified P4. If civil and military production figures are added together almost 200,000 vehicles have already been built to date.
